Patio/Grill sales team 

Purpose

Farmer John’s is a family owned, high end, garden center/landscape design and Boutique in Farmington Hills. We are proud to have a supportive and fun group of employees! We strive to create an enjoyable working environment and we’d love to have you.

Interact with each customer to provide information in response to inquiries in a friendly, professional and timely manner.  Answer customer’s questions regarding Patio and/or Grill on the sales floor.  Including but not limited to, inventory levels, warranty information, other inquiries from customers.  Manage customer purchases and if needed, schedule delivery.  Also responsible for incoming phone calls regarding products on the sales floor and/or website.  

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent
1+ years of experience in a Sales service related role

Tasks

Landscape Designer (Nursery team member)

Overview:

As Farmer John’s Landscape Designer, you will collaborate with homeowners to create visually appealing and functional outdoor spaces. This role requires developing innovative design concepts that prioritize aesthetics, sustainability, and functionality.

Salary:  

$ 18 +/hour (dependent on experience)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop landscape designs of exceptional horticultural and artistic standards based on client-provided pictures and measurements.
  • Collaborate during initial meetings to understand client requirements and preferences.
  • Utilize design software (e.g., Dynascape) or hand-drawn techniques to create detailed landscape plans, including site layouts and planting schemes.
  • Select appropriate plant species, materials, and elements to achieve desired aesthetic and functional goals.
  • Present design proposals and concepts to clients, incorporating feedback and revisions as needed.
  • Assist Nursery team members with various tasks, including customer assistance, plant maintenance, unloading shipments, and merchandising.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Past experience in Horticulture with a strong understanding of plant species and landscaping materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day) and lift heavy objects (50+ lbs) multiple times daily.
  • Previous sales experience is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in hand rendering, drafting, and computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Strong multitasking abilities with the capacity to manage overlapping priorities effectively.
  • Proven experience in landscape design with examples of previous projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainable landscaping practices and principles.

Retail Merchandise Buyer/Manager

Buy merchandise or commodities for resale to consumers at the retail level. 

Analyze past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of merchandise to determine value and yield. 

Select, order, and authorize payment for merchandise according to contractual agreements. 

May conduct meetings with sales personnel and introduce new products.

Full or Part-Time Customer Service Positions

Description:

The role of the Front Counter position is to ensure that each and every customer is served in a friendly, professional and timely manner. You will also be asked to manage customer queries and complaints, process purchases, schedule deliveries and answer phones. You will need to remain calm when customers are frustrated and some experience working with computers would be helpful.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward customers at all times.
  • Greet all customers with a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Identify customer issues/complaints and take necessary steps to resolve them including getting assistance from other departments.
  • Communicate respectfully at all times.
  • Some knowledge of plants would be helpful.
  • Keep the “register station” stocked with all necessary items, clean and organize when necessary.
  • Overseeing of other Customer Service staff.
  • Learn and adapt to new tasks or situations quickly and cooperatively.
  • Required to open and/or close all register stations, count money and ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change for the next day.
  • Check customers out for their purchases, handle exchanges and returns.
  • Enter and schedule deliveries and pick-up using the computer and communicating with the warehouse.

    Job responsibilities:

    Seasonal Delivery Driver

    Purpose

    Farmer John’s is a family owned, high end, garden center/landscape design and Boutique in Farmington Hills. We are proud to have a supportive and fun group of employees! We strive to create an enjoyable working environment and we’d love to have you.

    Drive trucks or other vehicles over established routes or within an established territory and deliver goods, such as grills, patio furniture, umbrella, plants/tree/shrubs.

    Pay rate: From 37440 – 41600/year, depending on experience and skills

    Education and Experience

    High school diploma or equivalent

    Chauffeur license required

    Acceptable driver’s record with no traffic violations
    Documents and/or references of experience as delivery driver

     

    Customer and Personal Service

    Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

    Transportation

    Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by road.

    Tasks

    • Drive trucks to deliver such items as grills, patio furniture, umbrellas and plants/trees/shrubs.
    • Listen to and resolve customers’ complaints regarding products or services.
    • Deliver a wide variety of items to different customer locations via different routes.
    • Follow routes and time schedules.
    • Load, unload, prepare, inspect and operate the delivery vehicles.
    • Follow all DOT regulations and safety standards.
    • Perform deliveries in a timely manner.
    • Preparing and checking each item for delivery daily.
    • Loading the delivery truck for daily deliveries.

    Job Description:

    We are seeking an experienced Plant Nursery Manager to oversee all operations of our nursery, including tree, shrub, rose and perennial purchasing , sales of all products  and staff management. The ideal candidate will have a strong horticultural background and a passion for plants and landscaping.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage day-to-day operations of the plant nursery, including scheduling, planting, watering, pruning, and harvesting of plants.
    • Supervise nursery staff, providing training and feedback on performance.
    • Monitor plant health and implement pest and disease control measures as needed.
    • Maintain inventory levels and order plants and supplies as necessary.
    • Oversee sales activities, including assisting customers, pricing products, and managing point-of-sale transactions.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with wholesale and retail customers, landscapers, and garden centers.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards related to plant health and nursery operations.
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day) and lift heavy objects (50+ lbs) multiple times daily.
    • Implement sustainable and environmentally friendly practices within the nursery.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, or related field (preferred).
    • Proven experience in plant nursery management or a similar role.
    • Strong knowledge of plant propagation, cultivation techniques, and plant health care.
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, inventory management software).
    • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

    As a Mulch & Soil Loader and Parking Lot Attendant, you will play a vital role in ensuring our customers have a positive experience from the moment they arrive. Your responsibilities will include loading mulch and soil products for customers and maintaining a clean and organized parking lot.

    Education and Experience:

    • No formal educational credential required.
    • Previous experience in a customer service or outdoor labor role is preferred.

    Skills:

    • Physical Strength:
      • Ability to lift and move heavy bags or containers of mulch and soil (up to 50 pounds or more).
    • Customer Service:
      • Friendly and helpful demeanor when interacting with customers.
    • Organizational Skills:
      • Ability to keep the parking lot clean, organized, and free of debris.
